About

The Scottish space incubator programme is part of a UK Network of space incubators, currently known as UK SpIN (Space Incubator Network).

In 2016, SoXSA (Scottish Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications) received funding to create a Scottish space incubator programme and support 6 companies over a 12 month period to scale up, refine the space technology being used and ensure the companies were equipped with business skills to guarantee success! In 2018, Scottish Enterprise saw the opportunity to support the programme alongside the UK Space Agency and we recruited another 6 companies for this second phase of the programme.

Our current programme is now closed but you can still register your interest for any future cohorts…

Why Glasgow?

Our incubator programme is located within Tontine, a tech accelerator hub created by Glasgow City Council.  Tontine houses a vibrant technology and start-up environment with amples of support and access to other economic agencies like Business Gateway, Scottish Development International, Scottish Enterprise and more!

Tontine is based in the heart of Glasgow, so it’s easy to get to, a great central location for your business meetings and Glasgow is the Cubesat capital of Europe.  Cubesats are small satellites enabling sectors such as climate, agriculture, maritime, fintech and more!  With Glasgow making more satellites than anywhere else in Europe, you know there is plenty of space and satellite technology expertise in the area.  SoXSA is your entry into the space network in Scotland and is based at the University of Strathclyde, which has one of the largest space research groups in Europe.

On top of all this, Edinburgh is only an hour away by train and is aiming to be the data capital of Europe, so you have a whole city of data expertise just down the road.  Organisations like The Data Lab are equipping Scotland for the data revolution and Scotland’s AI and Digital strategies are great examples of the opportunities that are available to companies in Scotland.  By choosing to locate your business in Glasgow and Scotland, you’re already in a good position.
