Good Financial Management Workshop

Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network is hosting a workshop on Good Financial Management which will be delivered by Martin Aitken and Co on Thursday 13th February, from 9.15am – 12.00pm. More information on this session can be found below:

Format and Topics – To give delegates an understanding of the key financial indicators in a business and measures to improve cashflow and profitability.

Aims and Content – The importance of financial systems and controls – the need to track your finances, the requirements of the relevant stakeholders, managing the finance function (including Cloud accounting) and an overview of the VAT and PAYE accounting.

The importance of management accounts – the difference between management accounts and year-end financial statements, understanding the data, and the difference between cash and profit.  Understanding working capital and its impact on cash.

What will the workshop cover and expected outcomes – Understanding the role and differences between the key financial statements (year-end), management accounts (ongoing) and setting up KPIs at board and individual department(s) level

Gain an awareness and understanding of the key financial metrics in the business and how to measure and report on these metrics on an ongoing basis (including taking the potential actions to rectify and get back on track).

Establish and implement key financial systems, controls and procedures in the business OR refine/update existing systems, procedures & controls.

Setting up management reporting in the business – what should be included in the weekly, monthly and quarterly MI director packs and how should the business assess performance.

Tax in all its guises – direct, indirect, transactions and the potential impacts on personal/family tax planning from decisions made by the business.

This workshop is hosted by the Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network and is open to Strathclyde students, staff, alumni and Tontine members.
