Since 2013, the UK Space Agency has run the Space Placements in INdustry (SPIN) programme, which aims to support businesses working in the space sector and to provide work experience for undergraduate and postgraduate students. For your business, this could be a piece of research or a small project that would otherwise not be done and can be used to highlight critical future skills that your business will require. Businesses can apply for a small grant up to a maximum of £3,000 to support the provision of a placement. Over 8 weeks in the summer, students are can work independently or as part of a team.
The scheme is run to support the provision of paid work placements across the sector and to fulfil the skills and careers aims and objectives of the UK Space Agency’s education programme, as set out in its Education, Skills and Outreach Strategy.
The programme is open until 19 June 2020, subject to availability of funds. Find out more and apply on the UK Space Agency’s website.
The programme is delivered by the Satellite Applications Catapult – more details and current open placements can be found on their website: https://sa.catapult.org.uk/work-with-us/space-placements-industry-spin/
